Central place of Sumo Wrestling that holds Grand Sumo Tournaments in Tokyo

If you visit Ryogoku Kokugikan, you can watch Sumo wrestling matches on Sumo Tournament days.

It is home of Sumo wrestling. Three of Sumo Grand Tournaments in Tokyo are held for 15 consecutive days in January, May and September among six tournaments in a year. The first day and the last day, are both on Sunday.

The tournament in January 2014 was held from January 12, 2014 (Sunday) to January 26 2014 (Sunday). The starting time is different day by day, generally from around 8:30 to around 10:00, the ending time is around 18:00. It is enjoyable to see the tournaments. It is great to experience dynamic sumo matches and atmosphere in the gymnasium. The higher rank of categories Sumo wrestlers belong to, the later they have Sumo matches.

There is Sumo Museum in this hall. "Mt. Fuji and Sumo," (from January 6, 2014 (Monday) to February 14, 2014 (Friday)) was the exhibition. The displays were related to Mr. Fuji and Sumo. In particular, it was overwhelming to see ornamental aprons that Mr. Fuji was drawn on. It was also interesting to see pictures of Grand Champions including Kitanoumi and Takanohana.

Also, other kinds of events are held. It is famous that "The Beethoven's 9th Symphony by 5,000 people" is held in February.

It opened in 1985. It is a large private hall with about 10,500 seats at commercial area in Ryogoku, Sumida City, Tokyo. Its nearest station is Ryogoku station.
