Buddhist Temple in Shibamata, Katsushika City, that is associated with Tora-San

If you visit Shibamata Taishakuten, you can see sculpture works on the outer wall of Taishakudo Hall.

As pay option, you can see sculpture works and Japanese garden. You can appreciate 10 sculpture masterpieces about story of Lotus Sutra. Walking around the corridor, you can also see beautiful Japanese garden called "Suikeien Garden" that Rakuzan Nagai (Year of birth and death unknown) made in 1965.

It seems that this Buddhist temple keeps good old Japanese atmosphere because traditional Japanese-style wooden architectures and "Zuiryu-no-Matsu Pine Tree" are well preserved in its temple grounds. There are Taishakudo Hall, Soshido Hall, Shakado Hall, Big Tower Bell, Nitenmon Gate and so on. Its official name is Keieizan Daikyoji Temple.

It is well-known that this temple is associated with Tora-San in the movie, "It's tough being a man." called "Otoko-ha-Tsuraiyo" that Mr. Yoji Yamada (1931-Present) conducted most of this film series.

There are many shops of mugwort dumplings called "Kusa-Dango" around the approach between Shibamata Station and Shibamata Taishakuten.

It has a history since 1629. It is a small Buddhist temple of Nichiren Sect at residential area in Shibamata, Katsushika City, Tokyo. Its nearest station is Shibamata station.

For your information, "Katsushika Shibamata Tora-San Museum" and "Katsushika Yamamoto-Tei" are close to this museum within a walking distance.
