Impressive landscape with modern skyscrapers and traditional Japanese garden

If you visit Hama-Rikyu Gardens, you can see a Japanese "Daimyo" garden of Tokugawa Shogun Family.

Historically, in Edo Period (1603-1867), Tsunashige Tokugawa (1644-1678), domain lord of Kofu, made "Kofu Hamayashiki House" in 1654. Then, his son, Ienobu Tokugawa (1662-1712) became the 6th Shogun of Tokugawa Shogunate in 1709, and Tokugawa Shogun Family had "Hamagoten Palace." In Meiji Period (1868-1912), the imperial Household Agency had "Hama-Rikyu Palace" in 1870.

This garden is selected as Special Place of Scenic Beauty of Japan and Special Place of Historical Site of Japan.

While it is flat and spacious, there are some hilly areas in this garden. In particular, you can view the wonderful scenery from "Fujimi Hill." There are "Nakajima-no-Ochaya Tea House" and "O-Tsutai-Bashi Bridge" in "Shioiri-no-Ike Pond," the only pond in Tokyo that sea water comes in. The panoramic view from "Ochinyama Hill" is also wonderful. It is impressive to see skyscrapers in Shiodome area from this traditional Japanese garden simultaneously. It is the collaboration of "tradition" and "modern."

Also, this garden has two duck hunting places called "Koshindo-Kamoba Duck Hunting Place" and "Shinsenza-Kamoba Duck Hunting Place."

You can see a wide variety of flowers and plants from season to season. The high season of plum blossom is around from late winter to early spring, that of cherry blossoms is in spring, and that of cosmos is in autumn. There is also "300-year pine tree" near the main entrance.

There is a dock of waterbus in this garden, and you can move to Asakusa and Odaiba areas.

It opened in 1946. It is a large public garden of Tokyo Metropolis at commercial area in Shiodome, Chuo City, Tokyo. Its nearest station is Shiodome station and so on.

For information, Hama-Rikyu Gardens and Kyu-Shiba-Rikyu Gardens are different from each other, while it is close. The nearest stations of Hama-Rikyu Gardens are Shiodome Station and Tsukiji-Shijo Station. On the other hand, the nearest stations of Kyu-Shiba-Rikyu Gardens are Hamamatsucho Station and Daimon Station.
