Japanese Circuit Garden that has Beautiful Scenery Harmonized with Pine Trees

If you visit Kyu-Shiba-Rikyu Gardens, you can see a beautiful Japanese circuit garden.

This garden is selected as Place of Scenic Beauty of Japan.

It seems that a lot of pine trees make this garden more attractive. In particular, you can see the panoramic view from the top of Ooyama Mountain. Walking around the pond, you can view the changing landscape of this garden. A large stone lantern at the shore of the pond has a strong presence.

Also, influenced by Chinese culture, there is Seiko-no-Tsuzumi Embarkment like Koishikawa Korakuen Gardens. By crossing this embarkemnt, you can move to Nakashima Island.

Like Kiyosumi Gardens, a lot of elegant stones are used in this garden. In particular, the dry waterfall made of stones called "Karetaki" is overwhelming.

You can see the landscape of Tokyo such as Tokyo Tower, World Trade Center Building and Tokaido Shinkansen from this garden. It is a collaboration between "tradition" and "modern" in Tokyo. For your information, you can have a bird's view of this garden from World Trade Center Building Seaside Top Observatory.

It is a Daimyo garden made in Edo period (1603-1867). It has a history that Tadatomo Okubo (1632-1712), domain lord of Odawara, made this garden and "Rakujuen Garden" opened around 1686. After the Imperial Household Agency had it during Meiji period (1868-1912), this garden became "Shiba-Rikyu Detached Palace" in 1876.

It opened in 1924. It is a small public garden of Tokyo Metropolis at commercial area in Hamamatsucho, Minato City, Tokyo. Its nearest station is Hamamatsucho station.

On a different note, Kyu-Shiba-Rikyu Gardens is different from Hama-Rikyu Gardens, while they are close to each other within a walking distance. Kyu-Shiba-Rikyu Gardens is near Hamamatsucho Station and Daimon Station. On the other hand, Hama-Rikyu Gardens is near Shiodome Station and Tsukiji-Shijo Station.
