Museum that shows the first metro train car in Japan

If you visit Metro Museum, you can know the world of metro trains in Japan.

It is an industrial museum of subway. Thanks to Tokuji Hayakawa (1881-1942), who is called Father of Japanese metro trains, the first metro train line in the oriental world opened between Asakusa and Ueno in 1927, early Showa period (1926-1989). The present Ginza Line between Asakusa and Shibuya was completed by two companies, Tokyo Underground Railway Company (between Asakusa and Shimbashi) and Tokyo Rapid Railway Company (between Shibuya and Shimbashi).

It is great to see two historic metro train cars parallelly, Ginza Line Car No. 1001 (the first metro train car in Japan) and Marunouchi Line Car No. 301. Along with Ginza Line Car No. 129 and Turnstile auomatic ticket gate, Ginza Line Car No. 1001 is selected as Heritage of Industrial Modernization in Japan.

There is a diorama of Tokyo metropolitan area called "Metro Panorama." This diorama is unique in terms that model railways of Tokyo Metro including Ginza Line, Marunouchi Line, Hibiya Line, Fukutoshin Line run under the grounds. There are Akasaka-Mitsuke Station, Nagatacho Station, Hibiya Station and Otamachi Station. You can find landmarks such as Tokyo Tower, Tokyo Dome, the National Diet Building on the ground. It is interesting to see various kinds of model railways gather at train car base in this diorama.

Also, there are drive simulators of train cars of Tokyo Metro including Chiyoda Line. You can see the display of shield machine cutter disc related to tunnel construction by shield method. Special Exhibitions are temporarily held.

It opened in 1986. It is a middle-sized private museum at commercial area in Higashi-Kasai, Edogawa City, Tokyo. Its nearest station is Kasai station.
