Among oldest parks in Japan that is famous for cherry blossoms

If you visit Asukayama Park, you can find about 650 cherry trees in the park.

You will be able to view cherry blossoms around from late March to early April. "Cherry Blossom Festival" is held in spring. Historically, thanks to Kyoho Reform by Yoshimune Tokugawa (1684-1751), the 8th Shogun in Edo period (1603-1867), this park became famous for cherry blossoms in 1737.

When I visited this park during the high season, I was impressed with the scenery of cherry blossoms because cherry trees are densely planted in the north area of the park.

Also, there are three museums in this park; Kita City Asukayama Museum, Paper Museum and Shibusawa Memorial Museum.

Kita City Asukayama Museum is a history museum of Kita City area. It is possible to know the history in Jomon Period (BC10,000-BC300) and Yayoi Period (BC300-300).

Paper Museum is an industry museum of paper. Oji is the birthplace of machine-made paper in Japan, and the factory of Oji Paper was located in this area.

Shibusawa Memorial Museum is an industrial museum of Eiichi Shibusawa (1830-1931), who is called the father of modern capitalism. The Bankoro Cottage and the Seien Bunko Library in Shibusawa Garden of Shibusawa Memorial Museum are selected as Important Cultural Property of Japan.

Moreover, you can see open-air display of D51 steam locomotive and Toden Arakawa Line. "Asukarugo," a monorail of Asuka Park Rail, runs between Park Entrance Station and Top-of-Mountain Station along the slope near Oji Station. If you are interested in Japanese railway, you can also visit Hokutopia Observatory to see a wide variety of trains including "Shinkansen" within a walking distance.

It opened in 1873 as one of the oldest parks in Japan along with some parks including Ueno Onshi Park. It is middle-sized public park at Asukayama Mountain, the lowest mountain in Tokyo with the height of 25.4 meter, in Oji, Kita City, Tokyo. Its nearest railway station is Oji Station.
