The temple that is related to Keishoin, mother of Tsunayoshi Tokugawa

If you visit Gokokuji Temple, you can see the Main Hall that was built in Edo Period (1603-1867).

This hall has a large roof. It is selected as Important Cultural Property of Japan, along with Gekkoden Hall.

Its temple grounds consist of Main Hall, Yakushido Hall, Taishodo Hall and so on. There is a wide open space in front of the main hall.

Historically, Tsunayoshi Tokugawa (1646-1709), the 5th Shogun of Tokugawa Shogunate, made this Buddhist temple, following the wish of Keishoin (1627-1705), his mother.

It was built in 1681. It is a middle-sized head Buddhist temple of Shingon Sect at commercial area in Otsuka, Bunkyo City, Tokyo. Its nearest station is Gokokuji station.
