Shrine with Steps of Social Success

If you visit Atago Jinja Shrine, you can go up and down "Steps of Social Success."

It consists of 86 steps of the steep straight stair between large Torii and main hall.

Its name comes from the episode that Mitsukuni Tokugawa (1604-1651), the 3rd Shogun of Tokugawa Shogunate, praised for Heihachiro Magaki, who went up and down the steps to take a branch of a plum tree at the top of Atago Mountain, riding on a horse in 1634. It is called "Otokozaka," men's slope. Also, there is a moderately curved steps called "Onnazaka," women's slope.

This Shrine enshrines God of Fire called "Homusubi-no-Mikoto." Historically, Ieyasu Tokugawa (1542-1616), the 1st Shogun of Tokugawa Shogunate, constructed it.

Its shrine grounds has a pleasant atmosphere with nature including Shogun Ume, a plum tree, and a pond. It consists of main hall, Tarobo hall, Fukuju Inari hall and so on.

It was constructed in 1603. It is a small shrine at Atagoyama Mountain in Atago, Minato City, Tokyo. Its nearest station is Kamiyacho Station and so on.
