Art museum that has sophisticated atmosphere in Tokyo Midtown

If you visit Suntory Museum of Art, you can appreciate art works according to the theme of exhibitions.

This art museum holds exhibitions related to pottery of the world as well as Japanese art.

It has a collection of about 3,000 items including one National Treasury of Japan and 13 Important Cultural Properties of Japan.

Project exhibitions are held. "The Scientific Eye and Visual Wonders in Edo" (from March 29, 2014 (Saturday) to May 11, 2014 (Sunday)) focused on the techniques and kinds of art works. It was impressive to see "Landscape with a dog" by Kokan Shiba that aerial perspective was used. It was also interesting to see art works through optical devices. In particular, it was impressive to see unique art works called "Saya-e" that is reflected on the column. It was overwhelming to see the composition of Ukiyo-e by Hiroshige Utagawa.

It was designed by Mr. Kengo Kuma (1954-Present) who engaged in Kabukiza Theatre and Nezu Museum. It has a sophisticated atmosphere that the design is harmonized among exhibition rooms, elevator and museum shop.

It opened in 1961 and moved to the 3rd floor of Tokyo Midtown in 2007. It is a middle-sized private art museum at commercial area in Roppongi, Minato City, Tokyo. Its nearest station is Roppongi station.
