1: to see Sangedatsumon Gate that is selected as Important Cultural Property of Japan

Temple of Tokugawa Shogun family near Tokyo Tower

If you visit Zojoji Temple, you can see Sangedatsumon Gate.

This large red gate was built in 1622 in Edo Period (1603-1867). It is selected as Important Cultural Property of Japan. This gate is famous, partly because Hasui Kawase (1883-1957) created his sculpture masterpieces including "Snow at Zojoji Temple."

This Buddhist temple is famous as family temple of Tokugawa Shogun Family, along with Kaneiji Temple.

There are 6 tombs out of 15 Tokugawa Shoguns in Edo Period: Hidetada Tokugawa of the 2nd Shogun (1579-1632), Ienobu Tokugawa of the 6th Shogun (1662-1712), Ietsugu Tokugawa of the 7th Shogun (1709-1716), Ieshige Tokugawa of the 9th Shogun (1711-1761), Ieyoshi Tokugawa of the 12th Shogun (1793-1853) and Iemochi Tokugawa of the 14th Shogun (1846-1866). While these tombs are usually closed to the public, they sometimes open.

Its official name is Sanenzan Koudoin Zojoji. Its temple grounds consist of Main Hall, Ankokuden Hall and so on. Also, Daimon Gate is located between this temple and Hamamatsucho Station.

From World Trade Center Building Seaside Top Observatory, you can see both this temple and Tokyo Tower simultaneously.

It was established in 1393. It is a middle-sized Buddhist temple of Jodo Sect at commercial area in Shiba Koen, Minato City, Tokyo. Its nearest station is Shiba-Koen Station.
