Art museum with world of "Sazae-San"
If you visit HASEGAWA MACHIKO ART MUSEUM, you can see theme-oriented exhibitions.
Machiko Hasegawa (1920-1992) is a famous Japanese cartoon artist. She collected art works with her older sister as well as wrote masterpieces including "Sazae-san."
"Collection Exhibition" and "Machiko Hasegawa Original Art Work Exhibition" are held simultaneously. In addition, "Anime Sazae-san Exhibition" is held in summer. For your information, "Collection Exhibition" is very different from "Anime Sazae-san Exhibition."
At Collection Exhibition, you can see general art works according to the theme of exhibition. Also, there is "Machiko Corner" where items related to her works are displayed as "Machiko Hasegawa Original Art Work Exhibition." Moreover, as for Sazae-san, you can see the house of 1/17 model that "Isono Family" lives in.
"Techniques in Pictures" (from April 26, 2014 (Saturday) to June 22, 2014 (Sunday)) was Collection Exhibition that focused on various kinds of techniques to draw art works. It was interesting that Tsuguharu Fujita (1886-1968) used collotype when he drew "Cat."
"Tools in Daily Life" was Machiko Hasegawa Original Art Work Exhibition at Machiko Corner during that period. Along with the stories of Sazae-san, tools such as black and white television in Showa Period (1926-1989) were explained. Also, art works by Machiko Hasegawa including a picture of "Cat" and an incense case of "Ume-no-Kogo" were displayed. Moreover, "Picture matching game of Sazae-San" was displayed and animation programs of Sazae-san were shown on television screen.
Wooden exhibition rooms at the 1st floor and the 2nd floor have an open ceiling space and natural light comes through the skylight window on the ceiling.
On a different note, you can see bronze statues of Isono Family at 4 places around Sakura-Shinmachi Station and Sazae-san Street.
It opened in 1985. It is a small private art museum at residential area in Sakura-Shinmachi, Setagaya City, Tokyo. Its nearest station is Sakura-Shinmachi station.
