Beautiful colored leaves of ginkgo trees in front of Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery

If you visit Jingu gaien, you can walk around the ginkgo avenue.

This avenue is widely recognized as one of the best ginkgo avenue in Japan. It lasts straight for about 300 meters in front of Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery. Considering visual effects, it is designed in perspective. There are 146 ginkgo trees and they are more than 100 years old. Along the avenue, you can find four lines: two lines in the left side and the other two lines in the right side. The highest ginkgo tree has the height of about 28 meter. In particular, the high season of their colored leaves is around from in late autumn to early winter. "Jingu Gaien Ginkgo Festival" is held around from mid-Nobember to early December.

It is an outer garden of Meiji Jingu Shrine. Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery is selected as Important Cultural Property of Japan. There is a garden at Meiji Kinenkan. Its official name is Meiji Jingu Gaien.

"Jingu Gaien Firework Festival" is held in summer. This event shows not only about 10,000 fireworks but also performance of artists in various places including Jingu Stadium.

At Jingu Stadium, you can watch professional baseball games of the central league that Tokyo Yakuruto Swallows plays, and university baseball games of Tokyo Big 6 Baseball League including "Waseda University vs Keio University."

As there are sports and cultural facilities along with the ginkgo avenue, it has an atmosphere of a general park rather than garden except the garden at Meiji Kinenkan.

It was established in 1926. It is a large garden at commercial area in Shinanomachi, Shinjuku City, Tokyo. Its nearest station is Shinanomachi station.
