Temple that has one of the largest number of worshippers in Japan during new year period

If you visit Kawasaki Daishi, you can see the Octagonal 5-Story Pagoda in its temple grounds.

This Buddhist temple consists of Main Hall, Fudodo Hall, Bell Tower, Daisanmon Gate and so on. Its principal object is the statue of Kukai (774-835) called "Kobo Daishi." Its official name is Heikenji Temple.

This temple is famous for the first visit of the year along with Meiji Jingu Shrine and Sensoji Temple. It seems that there are about 3 million visitors, one of the largest number of visitors in Japan, during new year period, while it changes year by year.

After getting off the train at Kawasaki-Daishi Station, you can walk through Omote-Sando approach and Nakamise Shopping Street. There are a lot of shops that deal with Kuzu-mochi Rice Cake, Nodo-Ame Candy and Darma Doll. In particular, you can hear the sound of cutting Nodo-Ame Candy.

Daikaicho-Houshu is held once in 10 years. At the last Daikaicho-Hoshu (from May 1, 2014 (Thursday) to May 31, 2014 (Saturday)), a lot of worshippers made a long line to receive "Akafuda Lucky Charm."

It was established in 1128. It is a middle-sized head Buddhist temple of Shingon Sect at commercial area in Daishi-Machi, Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture. Its nearest station is Kawasaki-Daishi station.
