1: to see art works of Taro Okamoto
2: to see "Tower of the Sun"

Art museum that there is world of Taro Okamoto surrounded by beautiful nature

If you visit Taro Okamoto Museum of Art, you can see "Tower of Mother."

This is the symbol tower of this museum outside the museum building. It is large and 30-meter high. Also, there is "Jurei" that means Spirit of Tree outside.

This museum holds Regular Exhibition and Project Exhibition. At Regular Exhibition, you can appreciate art works of Taro Okamoto (1911-1996) from the collection. At Project Exhibition, you can see contemporary art works or his works. There are the changes of display for both kinds of exhibitions. When it holds Regular Exhibition and Project Exhibition simultaneously, you can see both exhibitions.

At Regular Exhibition, when you go into the red room with the face on "Tower of the Sun" near the round entrance, you can realize that you come to the world of Taro Okamoto. It is unique that curved lines and sharp angle are effectively used in this museum.

At "Taro Okamoto and Olympics" (from January 17, 2014 (Friday) to April 6, 2014 (Sunday)), his art works related to the Olympic Games including "Commemorative Medal for Participants of the Tokyo Olympics 1964" were displayed. Also, there were his drawings such as "Mori no Okite" and his sculptures such as "Matsuri." It was enjoyable to see him say his famous words, "Geijutsu ha Bakuhatsu da" in a television commercial of Maxell. "The 17th Exhibition of the Taro Okamoto Award for Contemporary Art" (from February 8, 2014 (Saturday) to April 6, 2014 (Sunday)) was simultaneously held as Project Exhibition.

It opened in 1999. It is a middle-sized public art museum at hilly area in Ikuta Ryokuchi, Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture. Its nearest station is Mukogaoka-Yuen station.

For your information, Taro Okamoto Memorial Museum is located in Minami Aoyama, Minato City, Tokyo. You can see Aoyama Atelier where Tower of Sun was created by Taro Okamoto. You have an option to visit both museums.
