Art Museum of sculpture about Denchu Hirakushi who created art works aged over 100
If you visit Kodaira Hirakushi Denchu Art Museum, you can appreciate art works created by Denchu Hirakushi (1872-1879) who received the Order of Culture.
It is an art museum of sculpture. It holds seasonal exhibition and special exhibition.
Seasonal exhibition in summer (from May 28, 2014 (Wednesday) to August 24, 2014 (Sunday)) showed his masterpieces including "Kagami Shishi," "Kirakubo" and "Shinshun." A various kinds of materials such as wood, bronze and plaster were used. Art works created by artists who had good relationship with Denchu Hirakushi such as Shoji Hamada (1894-1978) and Togyu Okumura (1889-1990) were also displayed.
It was overwhelming to see a huge piece of camphor that Denchu Hirakushi prepared for new art works at the age of 100. It was possible to see tea room, atelier and garden at the Japanese-style house called kyujuhasoin. It was impressive to see his belongings including his cloth wrapper.
It opened in 1984. It is a middle-sized public art museum of Kodaira City at residential area near Tamagawa Josui Waterwork in Hitotsubashi Gakuen, Kodaira City, Tokyo. Its nearest station is Hitotsubashi Gakuen station.
On a different note, there is Ibara Municipal Denchu Art Museum in Ibara City, Okayama Prefecture.
