Old Buddhist Temple with Huge Scale Azalea Garden

If you visit Shiofune Kannonji Temple, you can see about 17,000 azalea trees in its temple grounds.

This Buddhist temple is famous for azalea flowers. The high season is in spring. As pay option, you can see azalea garden during "Azalea Festival."

You can see a panoramic view of azalea garden and Gomado Hall like a round theater from around Kannon Statue on top of the garden. Also, you can look around 270-degree view of azalea garden and Kannon Statue on top of the garden from around Gomado Hall.

This temple has a calm atmosphere surrounded by the beautiful nature. In addition to azalea trees, hydrangea flowers are beautiful from Main Gate to Amidado Hall in early summer. There are also a couple of huge cedar trees between Amidado Hall and Yakushido Hall.

There are historic buildings. Main Hall, Amidado Hall, and Main Gate are selected as Important Cultural Properties of Japan. They were constructed in Muromachi Period (1338-1573). In particular, Main Hall with the thatched roof has a Japanese atmosphere. Its official name is Daihizan Shiofune Kannonji Temple.

It has a history since Taika era (645-650). It is a middle-sized Buddhist temple of Shingon Sect at residential area with a lot of nature in Shiobune, Ome City, Tokyo. Its nearest station is Kabe station.
