Zoo that is famous for koala bears

If you visit Tama Zoological Park, you can see koala bears.

This zoo is one of the largest zoos (about 520,000 square meter, about 52ha, about 129 acre) in the world. There are about 320 kinds of animals in an unstrained space.

It consists of Australian Zone, African Zone, Asian Zone, and Insectarium.

In Australian Zone, you can find animals that inhabit their lives in Australia such as koara bears and kangaloos. You can see koara bears eating eucalyptus at Koara Pavilion during the feeding time.

In African Zone, you can find animals that inhabit their lives in Africa such as giraffes and zebras. As pay option, you can see lions, riding "a lion bus," the first safari-style lion bus in the world.

In Asian Zone, you can see that inhabitat their lives in Asia such as lesser pandas and snow leopards. There is "Skywalk" that orangutans move along the ropes between Orangutan Pavilion and Orangutan Forest.

In Inspectarium, you can find various kinds of butterflies at Insectopia. As it is a broad area, it is possible to see butterflies flying freely under a transparent ceiling.

As this zoo is located in a hilly area, it is necessary to move along slope paths like a hiking. Shuttle buses are also available.

It opened in 1958. It is a large public zoo of Tokyo Metropolis in Hodokubo, Hino City, Tokyo. Its nearest station is Tama-Dobutsukoen station.
