Popular shopping street with human empathy

If you visit Ameyoko, you can walk around a lively shopping street like the area of street stalls on a festival day.

It is a popular shopping street all through the year. In particular, it is a seasonal tradition that a lot of people go shopping to purchase food for new year dishes in this area in late December.

It consists of a wide variety of shops including food, clothes and sports items. You can find sales demonstration of sweets such as chocolates. Also, there are street stands of Japanese, Chinese and middle-eastern foods.

Generally speaking, shops in this area have traditional atmospheres. They are different from fancy shops in Ginza and Roppongi areas, and trendy shops in Shibuya and Harajuku areas. They are similar from Tsukiji Market with human empathy.

It is a middle-sized shopping street that more than 400 shops gather along the 400-meter street in the western underpass area between Ueno Station and Okachimachi Station. It has had a history since the late 1940's. It is sometimes called "Ameya Yokocho" and "Ueno Ameyoko." It is located in Ueno, Taito City, Tokyo. Its nearest station is Ueno Station and so on.
