Large Science Museum in Ueno Park

If you visit National Museum of Nature and Science, you can see the world of science.

There are Nippon-Kan, Sekai-Kan and Open-Air Space. Regular Exhibition and Special Exhibition are held.

Regular Exhibition is held at Nippon-Kan, Sekai-Kan and Open-Air Space.

At Nippon-Kan, it is overwhelming to see the growth rings of Yakusugi Cedar. It is also wonderful to see the corner that stuffed specimen of two dogs: Hachi and Jiro. Hachi waited for the return of its lord in Shibuya. Jiro played an important role in Antarctic area.

It is enjoyable to watch 360-degree short movies at Theater 36○. It was relocated from Nagakute Nippon Pavilion of "2005 World Exposition, Aichi, Japan."

At Sekai-Kan, it is impressive to see the particles of Itokawa, a small asteroid, and the stone of the moon. There are also the stuffed specimen of Huan Huan, a giant panda at Ueno Zoological Gardens and the fossil remain of a mammoth.

At Open-Air Space, there are large exhibitions: Steam Locomotives near the entrance, the objet of blue whale near the exit and rocket launcher behind Sekai-Kan.

For information, there are Institute for Nature Study in Shirokanedai, Minato City, Tokyo, and Tsukuba Botanical Garden in Amakubo, Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture.

For your information, there are many cultural facilities around National Museum of Nature and Science in Ueno Onshi Park. You can visit Tokyo National Museum, The National Museum of Western Art, Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, The University Art Museum, Tokyo University of the Arts, The Ueno Royal Museum, Ueno Zoological GardensShitamachi Museum and so on.

It opened in 1877. It is a large national science museum at Ueno Onshi Park in Ueno, Taito City, Tokyo. Its nearest station is Ueno station.

It is estimated that it is 5 hours in a regular pace, 4 hours in a hurried page, and 6 hours in a slow pace.

Opening Hour
This museum opens from 9:00 to 17:00 (last entry: 16:30). It opens from 9:00 to 20:00 (last entry: 19:30) on Friday. Opening Hour can be extended during summer, golden week and special exhibition period.

Closed Day
This museum closes every Monday, year-end and new year holiday from December 28 to January 1, and period for fumigation. in case that Monday is either a national holiday or a substitute holiday, this museum opens on Monday and closes on the following weekday. This museum is to be closed for fumigation from June 23, 2014 (Monday) to June 27, 2014 (Friday). Closed days may change during special exhibition period.

Admissions Fee
It is different between regular exhibition, star watching at night and special exhibition. In case of regular exhibition, it it 620-yen for adults and university students. It is free for high school students including national college of technology students and those aged 65 and over. In case of star watching at night, it is 310-yen for adults and university students, It is free for high school students including national college of technology students and those aged 65 and over. In case of special exhibition, it is different between exhibitions. It is free about regular exhibition only on International Museum Day of May 18 and Culture Day of November 3.

Access
The closest station is Ueno Station of Yamanote Line and so on (JR East). It takes about 5 minutes through Ueno Park from the Koen Gate of the Station. It is also accessible from many direction including Ueno Station of Ginza Line (Tokyo Metro).
