History museum that shows the world of Shitamachi including Ueno and Asakusa

If you visit Shitamachi Museum, you can see the replicated old town in Tokyo.

It is a history museum. There are exhibition rooms at the 1st floor and the 2nd floor.

At the 1st floor, it is enjoyable to experience the atmosphere of old town including row houses and alleys. It was impressive to see traditional Japanese paper lamps at these row houses as seasonal displays (as of late January 2014).

At the 2nd floor, materials about old town are displayed. It was wonderful to see materials including "Ryounkaku" as a symblo of Asakusa. It was also impressive to find that Five-Storied Pagoda at Sensoji Temple was located in a different place. It was interesting to see the display that expo was held at Ueno Onshi Park.

"Clothes and Life of Women from Meiji Era to Showa Era" (from November 23, 2013 (Saturday, national holiday) to March 2, 2014 (Sunday)) was special exhibition.

For information, as an annex of this museum, there is The Former Yoshidaya Liquor Shop in Yanaka area.

It opened in 1980. It is a small public history museum of Taito City at commercial area in Ueno, Taito City, Tokyo. Its nearest station is Ueno station and so on.
