Art museum designed by Le Corbiser

If you visit The National Museum of Western Art, you can appreciate western art works.

It is an art museum of western art. Regular exhibition and project exhibition are held.

Regular exhibition is composed of Matsukata Collection and so on. At the garden, sculptures by Auguste Rodin (1840-1917) are also displayed.

From cultural point of view, it plays an important role as the center of cultural exchange between western countries, especially France, and Japan.

From architectural point of view, it is the only architectural building in east Asia that reflect the concept of unlimited development museum.

"Le Corbiser and 20th Century Art" (from August 6, 2013 (Tuesday) to November 4, 2013 (Monday, national holiday)) was special exhibition. It was wonderful that art works of Le Corbiser was displayed in the main building of the National Museum of Western Art designed by Le Corbiser (1887-1965).

"Michelangelo Buonarroti -the Making of a Genius and the 500th Anniversary of the Sistine Chapel" (from September 6, 2013 (Friday) to November 17, 2013 (Sunday)) was project exhibition. It was wonderful to see masterpieces of Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564) including "Madonna of the Stairs." Also, "Monet, an Eye for Landscapes: Innovation in 19th Century French Landscape Paintings" (from December 7, 2013 (Saturday) to March 9, 2014 (Sunday)) was project exhibition. It was overwhelming to see masterpieces of Claude Monet (1840-1926) including "Water Lilies."

It opened in 1959. It is a large national art museum at Ueno Onshi Park in Ueno, Taito City, Tokyo. Its nearest station is Ueno station.

It is estimated that it is about 2 hours in a regular pace, about 1.5 hours in a hurried pace, and about 2.5 hours in a slow pace.

Opening Hour
This museum opens from 9:30 to 17:30 (last entry: 17:00). However, it opens from 9:30 to 17:00 (last entry: 16:30) from the day after the special exhibition in autumn closes to the day before the special exhibition in spring starts. It opens from 9:30 to 20:00 (last entry: 19:30) every Friday. Also, opening hour is temporarily changed. It temporarily opens.

Closed Day
This museum is closed every Monday, and year-end and new year holiday from December 28 to January 1. Also, it is temporarily closed.

Admissions Fee
It is different between exhibitions. In case of regular exhibitions, it is 500-yen for adults and 250-yen for university students. It is free for those aged 65 and over, high school students, those aged 18 and under. It is free about regular exhibitions only on the 2nd Saturday of every month, the 4th Saturday of every month, and Culture Day of November 3. In case of special exhibitions, it is different between exhibitions.

It takes about 1 minute from Ueno Station on foot. It is easy to find this museum in Ueno Park.
