Art museum where various kinds of exhibitions are held at the same time

If you visit Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, you can appreciate art works according to the theme of exhibitions.

It is an art museum where exhibitions of world famous museum are held.

There are a lot of exhibition rooms. Like The National Art Center, Tokyo, this art museum works as a platform that several kinds of exhibitions including special exhibition, project exhibition, and publicly sponsored exhibition are simultaneously held.

Its entrance is at the B1 floor after passing the entrance gate and riding on escalator. The entrance of special exhibition is located at the B1 floor.

"Kaku no Kai" (from March 2, 2014 (Sunday) to March 8, 2014 (Saturday)) was held at the gallery A of the B3 floor  and "Island View" (from February 19, 2014 (Wednesday) to March 7, 2014 (Friday)) was held at the gallery B of the same floor.

It opened in 1926. It is a large public art museum of Tokyo Metropolis at Ueno Onshi Park in Ueno, Taito City, Tokyo. Its nearest station is Ueno station.

This museum opens from 9:30 to 17:30 (last entry: 17:00). When special exhibitions are held, it opens from 9:30 to 20:00 (last entry: 19:30) on Friday.

Closed Day
It is unique that this museum closes only rooms of special exhibitions and project exhibitions every Monday. In case that Monday is either a national holiday or a substitute holiday, this museum opens the rooms of these kinds of exhibitions on Monday and closes these rooms on the following weekday. Also, this museum temporarily opens on these days. The whole museum is closed on the 1st Monday, the 3rd Monday, maintenance period from July 7 to July 14, maintenance period of December 21 to December 28, year-end and new year holiday from December 29 to January 3. In case that Monday is either a national holiday or a substitute holiday, this museum opens on Monday and closes on the following weekday. This whole museum temporarily closes and opens.

Admissions Fee
It is different between exhibitions. For information, it was 1,400-yen for adults, 1,200-yen for students, 800-yen for high school students and 1,000-yen for those aged 65 and over in case of "The Centennial Exhibition of the Japan Art Institute's Revival: The Masterpieces of Nihonga" from January 25, 2014 (Saturday) to April 1, 2014 (Tuesday).

It takes about 7 minutes from Ueno Station on foot.
